Sew & Tell Saturday 9/29/12

Photobucket
Welcome to Sew & Tell Saturday!
I have been away for a couple of weeks because I was participating in the kids clothing design competition Project Run & Play and was leaving my post entries up all weekend to steer people over there.
Well, it looks like I have been totally demolished by the competition this weekend. My little Purple Pumpkin dress is sadly chugging along in last place.

I won't pretend I'm not disappointed because I thought my little dress made from a white bedsheet was really cute. It's hard to take when no one is voting for your little one in an outfit you made for her! I thought the photo above was fitting for how it feels....
OK, enough of the pity party!
Should you be curious to see the other entries and to cast your vote you can head over here after you post your projects. The voting ends on Sunday night.

I also just wanted to mention a pattern making draft along I will be starting up on November 1. We will be working through Cal Patch's book Design It Yourself Clothes.
Cal has been gracious enough to make herself available for us and she will be even donating a book for a giveaway! I'm very excited. Stop by Monday to sign up.

So are you ready to share your projects ? I'm ready to see them!

  2. I think your dress was awesome and I voted for it!(even before I read your post) I think it must be very hard to participate in PR&P but look how far you came and its not over yet.

  4. Oh, no! Your dress is so pretty. Not fair!

  5. I think the real test is creating something you're proud of and that your daughter likes to wear... and you obviously succeeded on both those points!

  6. Oh your dress is so cute and so fallish. The voting is sooooo tough to deal with on PR&P - not a normal state of being for us sewing bloggers, who just make things we like and we think our kids will like most of the time, you know? I have a horrible time predicting how voting will go each week and sometimes I don't understand it, and I'm sorry this week doesn't seem to be yours. :( Take care and know you sew beautifully and creatively. I gained so much confidence in my own aesthetic AFTER PR&P!

  8. Agh! Voting contests. I love your dress and photos in the pumpkin patch. You've done a great job on Project Run & Play and have made some really detailed items. I can't imagine how much work that is!! I bet your daughter is thrilled with her dress and that's what matters.

  9. well, as you know I've been there (on the bottom), so I know how you feel ~ ugh!
personally I'm not a huge fan of this online voting, I have no luck with it, ever! this was my 3rd time with this online voting & each time I got last place! I seem to have more success with publications, it seems to work better for me... maybe you'd be interested in submitting more of your work?
don't let the competition define you, keep going...
whenever you leave the competition I hope you will join me in the sew along group.
what are you sewing for boys wear?

    1. Maybe I will join along after next week. I don't have any boys to sew for so I wasn't looking forward to the challenge anyway.

  13. Hey Justine, I just wanted you to know how much I love your designs...they are so classic and chic. You have an incredible talent and I admire you a ton. Don't lose hope, yet. You never know what will happen when the voting results are combined with the judges scores. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you are still in the competition Monday morning.

  14. I think you are incredibly talented, and your huge background knowledge of all things sewing related, comes through in your posts. Don't let the competition knock your confidence, you still have all that talent and knowledge :-)

  15. It is so hard to put your creations out there for the world to judge. Your dress is very pretty and it says nothing negative about you if you don't move on in PRP. We all have our own astetic and that comes through in competitions. Just be true to you!

  16. I was so sorry to see that you were eliminated this week. I thought the purple dress was darling and an excellent take on the white sheet challenge. You're a very talented seamstress, Justine!

  17. Well, I loved your dress and voted for it because I wanted to make it for my daughter. It would be very hard for me to put my ideas and creations out there for others to judge, so I think it's great that you were brave enough to do that. I'm excited for your sew along. I bought that book a year or so ago because I want to get better and making my own patterns, but I haven't used it yet. Maybe this will be the motivation I need.

  20. This dress was beautiful - exactly the kind of thing my daughter would love to wear (that is, if I were skilled enough to make it). Thanks for the inspiration!
