1943 Sailor Shorts! 1940's Kids Spring Collection Highlights

Last weekend  the weather was lovely so I took the girls to Santa Barbara for the day.
It was the perfect opportunity for Lily to wear her 1943 style sailor shorts and halter top I made from this pattern from 1943:

Don't you think this style looks fresh and modern, even though the design is almost 70 years old? It goes to show you good design is timeless!
Lily brought her best friend. As you can see she recently had a growth spurt. Lily has some catching up to do!

This spring I decided I would try to make a more coordinated collection from fabrics in my stash. It was inspired by, you guessed it, a nautical theme!
My other inspiration was the 1940's, so I used some of my vintage patterns for some of the designs .

Pieces for Gigi:

This little jumpsuit was inspired by 1940's female factory workers...

This dress wasn't so 40's but it went with my color theme!

This pattern from 1943 was used to make Lily's sailor dress below.

I loved how the little sailor dress turned out.
Stay tuned for a few more pieces to come...
And next week some sewing for me!

  3. I am loving this nautical theme you have been rockin'. Those 40's patterns ARE timeless and way too adorable. I can't wait to see what comes next. I am also glad that it looks like the whole hip hugger/low rise thing is fazing out. I thought that was the most unflattering look on a woman or even a young woman who has the hips to pull off the look. Sick of seeing buttcracks, tramp stamps and underwear.

  8. Adorable outfits! Lily and Gigi look so cute. They must love having such beautiful one-of-a-kind clothes. I too love 40s patterns, and I have a couple of children's patterns stashed for when I have children. Great job on these!
