A Refashioned Sweater Tutorial: The Gigi Toddler Dress

 Hello readers!
This is a fun and simple project I made for my little girl from a cashmere turtleneck I bought at the thrift shop. I love sweater dresses on little girls in the winter time and this blue color was so pretty and cheerful. To see how I made it read my tutorial below:
Adult cashmere sweater.
Cut off the bottom portion of the sweater in the length you would like your skirt to be. Make sure to leave enough room above it for the bodice.
Cut off the sleeves from the sweater and cut them down, using one of your child's shirt sleeves for a guide. I measured my daughter's arm and just cut the sleeve, eyeballing the shape of the armscye. The thing I like about sewing for kids is their bodies are so simple to fit . I always have to make so many adjustments to get things to fit me perfectly. Sewing for children is a nice change.
Use one of her T-shirts to make the bodice piece. I cut off half of the turtleneck and blanket stitched the top so it wouldn't fray.
Then I gathered the skirt piece and attached it to the bodice and attached the sleeves. Since the sweater sleeves and skirt are already finished there is no hemming.
Easy Peasy!
For the finishing touches, I made pockets, a waistband, and a flowers from the scraps. I blanket stitched the edges with pink embroidery floss and used some vintage buttons on the pockets and flower.

  6. What a very adorable dress, so lucky for a little girl to be able to wear cashmere. Do they even make children's clothes from cashmere?
