Spring Skirt 1: Echino Japanese print skirt

I have been going contest crazy lately!
It started with the Sew you can think you can sew contest. I made it in but I got cut the first week with my burlap ruffle pillow entry.
Then I was a runner up for Sew-Vivor but didn't get voted into the top ten.
Next up was Project Run and Play but my forties dress wasn't noticed.
Tonight I entered my third project for the vintage modern design challenge on Burdastyle!
And I just found out about the spring top sew a long and contest starting Monday at Made By Rae which is motivating me to make some tops for myself. It's a coincidence that I just finished cutting out some vintage Liberty type fabric to make myself a blouse from the new Burdastyle handbook.

Made By Rae was one of the first sewing blogs I found when I got back into sewing two and a half years ago. I was so excited about sewing again that I decided to start my own blog. And now I have another new passion too, photography.

So what is going on with me? Could I actually be discovering a competitive side this late in my life? Me the laid back person who can go to Las Vegas and not feel like playing one single casino game ?

I made this pencil skirt from my master pencil skirt pattern. If you would like to make your own pencil skirt pattern check out my tutorial button on my sidebar!

 Japanese fabric is so fun!
Superbuzzy, an online fabric store which specializes in Japanese prints recently opened up a shop in nearby Ventura. I was like a kid in a candy store and spent over an hour looking at the prints and Japanese design books and patterns. They have a huge selection.

  8. Competition has been on my mind lately too. If you want to really go for it, PR has a plethora of contests and lots of entries. It's fun and motivating.

Love your skirt and the fabric rocks. I just found a few old linens and sheets at the thrift store. One is a funky Indian design with a giant border. Skirt? dress? who knows, it's still snowing here!
