<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hello readers!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been wanting to do a tutorial series on basic pattern draping and drafting for some time now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There is a lot of information involved and I wasn't sure how to break it all down and it seemed like such a big job. But needed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b> So today I present to you: </b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>DRAPING AND CREATING A BASIC BODICE SLOPER: THE FRONT</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What is a sloper if you don't already know? A master pattern from which you can create many other designs from. Pretty awesome.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First I'd like to tell you a little bit about my background in pattern making, and how I originally learned to make them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I went to FIDM to study fashion design in the early nineties there were some very good teachers who came from a time when things were still made beautifully, with lots of attention to construction details.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of my intructors: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Connie Amaden Crawford.</b> If you are interested in fashion draping Connie Amaden Crawford is the author of the quintessential draping textbook,<a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1609012275/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1609012275&linkCode=as2&tag=sewcountrychi-20%22%3EThe%20Art%20of%20Fashion%20Draping%3C/a%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=sewcountrychi-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1609012275%22%20width=%221%22%20height=%221%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22%22%20style=%22border:none%20!important;%20margin:0px%20!important;%22%20/%3E"><b> The Art Of Fashion Draping</b></a>. ( affiliate link) She has several books on pattern making, draping, pattern grading, fitting, and also a pattern line available through her website and Amazon if you would like to learn more about her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ms. Crawford was an exacting teacher and I learned a lot in her classes, although at the time I thought she was maybe <i>too demanding</i>. I stayed up many a night trying to get things just right for her class. She taught me pattern drafting, and pattern grading. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My draping teacher was actually an elderly gentleman who always wore a suit and a pocket square with beautiful brushed back silver hair. He was very elegant and I wish I could remember his name as he worked at some very high end companies back in the fifties and sixties. Anyway, I was very well prepared when I later went on to work in the industry briefly after graduating. And even though I stopped working to be a stay at home mom, many of the foundational lessons I learned in those basic classes were ingrained as I came back to making clothes after too many years away.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been going through many of my old notes I found and textbooks to try to put something together I can present to you as a tutorial here on the blog.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Do you have a dress form and aren't sure how to use it yet? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once you have a few basic blocks created, designing is quite simple.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Let's get started!</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What do you need?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A dress form</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
pins</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
scissors </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
a tracing wheel</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A quilter's ruler.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
a pen</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
paper ( I use freezer paper sometimes)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
a cutting mat if you have one( helps with tracing lines.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sxCmPcZ2B7E/UlGWPQ0B6mI/AAAAAAAABFw/CMBCm27v3mw/s1600/drapedfront1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sxCmPcZ2B7E/UlGWPQ0B6mI/AAAAAAAABFw/CMBCm27v3mw/s1600/drapedfront1.jpg" /></a></div>
1. When draping a basic block, we drape only one half of the form. Later, we will cut out both sides to test the fit. But for now to drape the front, you will need a piece of fabric about 5 inches longer then the neck to waist on the form, and 5 inches wider than the center front to side seam. Before you start pinning the fabric on the form draw the CROSS GRAIN LINE near the middle of the fabric. Lay that on the form across the bust line and mark the APEX, or bust point. Pin the fabric at the apex, the center front waist, neck and apex points, making sure the fabric is on the STRAIGHT GRAIN and 45 degrees across on the center front all the way to the side seam arm plate. <br />
<br />
2. Next, drape the waist dart. Clip the fabric at the princess line almost to the waist line.The line going straight down on the form between the CF (center front) and side seam is the PRINCESS LINE.<br />
<br />
3 & 4. Pin at the side seam and center front waist points. First, make sure the fabric is falling correctly from the side seam armplate. It should hang straight down, not looking crooked.Smooth the fabric at the waist over from the center front waist and put a pin at the princess line. Now smooth the fabric over from the side seam waist to the princess line/ waist point. The fabric will gap because of the bust and that extra fabric will form the front waist dart. Fold the excess over and pin it shut.<br />
The bigger the bust, the bigger the dart!<br />
<br />
BTW my dress form is wearing a bra because it's the same measurements as me except for there, so I padded it out with my bra. I do have a tutorial for padding your dress form if you find you are a little too curvy for it. My waist is a tiny bit bigger, and my shoulders are more narrow so when I make my final muslin, I will fit it on myself and make a few small adjustments. <br />
To see my blog on customizing your dress from <a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/2011/02/how-to-customize-dress-form.html">click here.</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W5jYkpXPBfI/UlGWPYJZSFI/AAAAAAAABF0/1ODI6rI3HOA/s1600/drapedfrontcollage2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W5jYkpXPBfI/UlGWPYJZSFI/AAAAAAAABF0/1ODI6rI3HOA/s1600/drapedfrontcollage2.jpg" /></a></div>
5. Pin at the side seam armplate and smooth the fabric up and over the armplate towards the neck. Draping feels like sculpting, smoothing things carefully, then pinning them.<br />
<br />
6. Use your pencil to trace the side seam, waist seam and neckline. Clip into the fabric at the neckline to smooth out the neckline drape. Now pin at the shoulder armplate point and pin the excess fabric that has gathered up there between the should arm point and neck point into another dart on the princess line. Pin it closed. Mark the armplate screw and the middle of the armplate between the shoulder and side seam. Make sure you mark the spot where each dart ends as well as each dart leg.<br />
<br />
7& 8 .TRUE UP meaning draw lines in with a ruler, your rough lines you made on the dress form.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vC-wqWGeTjI/UlI8B-9MWNI/AAAAAAAABG0/5Elr4tH_Gvk/s1600/drapedfront13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vC-wqWGeTjI/UlI8B-9MWNI/AAAAAAAABG0/5Elr4tH_Gvk/s1600/drapedfront13.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
You are probably wondering what the deal is with that shoulder dart about now, right? Will you have a weird dart at your shoulder ? Nope. We are going to slash the pattern and pivot the dart excess into the bottom dart. Another method is to pivot the shoulder dart into the armhole. Some designs need you to use a two dart basic bodice sloper as your foundation, and some need a one dart sloper as a foundation. Today we are making a one dart sloper. ...<br />
<br />
<b>REDRAW </b>the dart, ending it at the apex on the crossgrain line. Keep the dart the same at the bottom of the dart legs. <br />
<br />
Now... iron your fabric pattern, and tape it to paper. If you have a cutting mat place it under the fabric between it and the paper. Use your TRACING WHEEL to trace the pattern lines. When you remove the fabric, you will see all of the little dots impressed in the paper and will need to trace them with your pencil and ruler, making sure to trace in the new darts. My camera couldn't pick up the details. They are hard to see.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2_llkXVGndI/UlGXXFmE6TI/AAAAAAAABGI/Q3Ycx34NO1M/s1600/draped16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2_llkXVGndI/UlGXXFmE6TI/AAAAAAAABGI/Q3Ycx34NO1M/s1600/draped16.jpg" /></a></div>
9. Above is my traced and trued pattern piece. To move the shoulder dart, cut through the CENTER of both darts until almost touching the apex. Pivot the top dart closed. The bottom dart will automatically become wider! <b>COOL, isn't it!?</b> Once my dart was closed and my bottom dart got really big, I patched it from behind with some scratch paper. See number 13 below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q-BrWfMfLhw/UlGXXMhie2I/AAAAAAAABGE/F0Q5w_dgnG4/s1600/drapedfront3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="487" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q-BrWfMfLhw/UlGXXMhie2I/AAAAAAAABGE/F0Q5w_dgnG4/s640/drapedfront3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10. SQUARE the edges of the pattern. I show this before I changed the dart but it doesn't matter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11. Time to add some FUNCTIONAL EASE. This keeps you from feeling like you are wearing an Elizabethan corset. Minimum ease recommended in the bust area is two inches for comfort. Also now is the time to lower the armhole a bit, too. Make a mark one inch under the armhole and 1/2 inch out from the side seam. Redraw your armhole. If you have a FRENCH CURVE ruler, it's very helpful. I couldn't find mine so I just drew it free hand. Now you can lower your neckline about 1/4 inch as well.I also added 3/8 inch seams all around the pattern. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12. To finish the dart you redrew you will need to fold the dart closed and cut along the seam line you drew at the waist. When you open it , it will look like a typical dart. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n9lvPm9R7zU/UlGXfqHwm9I/AAAAAAAABGU/AAUMlOlHIH0/s1600/drapedfrontfinished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n9lvPm9R7zU/UlGXfqHwm9I/AAAAAAAABGU/AAUMlOlHIH0/s1600/drapedfrontfinished.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So there is my rough front bodice sloper. Join me tomorrow to see how the back bodice is made.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I will make a final muslin, work out any kinks and transfer that to Manila paper.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Last year when Lily told me she wanted me to make her a Black ninja assassin costume I raised my eyebrows and thought to myself...."hmmmmmm."</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Sounds challenging...."</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And the perfect opportunity to experiment with some black faux leather stretch fabric I bought downtown for 2 dollars a yard that had been donated from the workshop of the BEBE design room, a chain shop catering to cheesy, super sexy, and age inappropriate fashion knockoffs for teens. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now that I look back, I wonder if it had something to do with the rough school year she was having, her wanting to be a black ninja assassin for Halloween, that is.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Or maybe she watched a ninja movie with her big brother when I wasn't home....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Lily drew a picture of what she wanted, and I set about figuring how to construct it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I traced some of her pants and a long sleeved t shirt, and connected them to make a jumpsuit pattern.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made the top wrap around because that was a part of Lily's design.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I created a hood pattern using a pattern I had. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made a hole on the top of the hood to put her pony tail through.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think she looks really tough!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
That's actually a real sword cover on her hip there. A souvenir from a trip to Japan. Sword not included on hip... But she wanted to use it. Too sharp.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have to draw the line somewhere.</div>

<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><b> Stitched Blooms is a beautiful new embroidery book by Embroiderer Carina Envoldsen_ Harris. It's 300 designs and motifs feature lovely floral designs, some with a folk art feel I love.<br />
</b></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I received a copy of the book myself from Lark Books last week and it's one of those pretty books that gets you really excited about making the projects in the book. I am looking forward to trying some of the projects, especially since finding several vintage embroidery hoops at an estate sale last week. There are over 20 projects in the book and there are even more designs, over 300, on the accompanying CD. The directions are clear, even for a beginner like myself. There are a variety of designs geared for all levels of hand embroiderers.<br />
I think I may try to make a Mexican style top with embroidery on the yoke.<br />

I have been going a little wacko with my fabric collecting the past few months. I don't spend anything on new stuff really, and actually I spend very little on fabric at all, but somehow I have amassed tons of it!<br />
<br />
Here's one story: The artistic director of the theater where I occasionally work as a costumer e-mailed me to say the lighting director's father had gone into a nursing home and they had to get rid of his deceased mother's fabric collection. Could I stop by that day to look it over and take what I wanted before they donated it all? The director had also let the other costume designers know about it, but most of them live far from our little town. Lucky for me I was ten minutes away. I was going to be be the first person on the scene. I didn't have any important plans <b><i>(besides having a dinner party in exactly two hours with people my husband had invited and who I hadn't met yet. </i></b>) Actually, I still had to go to the grocery store because I hadn't even bought the groceries for the dinner yet, but hey, I could spare a few minutes to look through approximately forty draw string tied Hefty bags of fabric couldn't I ? <b>OF COURSE I COULD!</b>!<br />
<br />
<iframe allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="710" scrolling="no" src="//instagram.com/p/eS6X8ghu8_/embed/" width="612"></iframe>
<br />
As I read this e mail to my 10 year old over our usual chicken burritos
at La Terraza she said. "Mommy, you have that look in your eyes again." She thinks I have a problem. She's probably right. I dropped the girls off at home after we finished our burritos and then headed to the theater. When I was let into the room with the fabric my jaw almost dropped. I was shown piles of bags and boxes of vintage patterns and asked to try to not make much noise because there was a matinee going on through the partition wall. Then the door closed and I was alone with a mountain of fabric and exactly forty minutes to go through it all because I had to get back for my dinner party and still go to the store. My hands were shaking as I tried to neatly go through the piles and tie up the bags neatly afterwards as I piled up linens, striped cotton knits and funky sixties and seventies prints. It was like a dream!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>But what am I going to do with all of this fabric now??? </b></div>
<br />
On<b> </b>Fridays I go to estate sales and this is where I buy most of my vintage fabrics and craft supplies. I have a post about my estate sale shopping adventures <a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/2013/09/estate-sale-shopping-tips.html">here</a>. Sometimes it's just a wee bit morbid going to estate sales. Lily gets kind of creeped out going through old people's things so I don't bring her anymore. Gigi loves it, but I worry she is going to end up an eccentric like me if I keep bringing her.<br />
<br />
I also find other cool things besides fabric. Like this past week I bought several rolls of sixties wall paper for two dollars. I can't wait to make something with it! However, most of the time I don't really find much, maybe a small bag of zippers and bias binding, or some wooden embroidery hoops. <br />
<br />
This past Friday I was in a house and there was a bag of embroidery stuff for sale. There was a beautiful embroidery project still in it's hoop that was almost finished, except for one letter that hadn't been embroidered. It said, <b>"Families Are Forever."</b> I thought about the old woman lovingly made it and now her unfinished project was lying there at her estate sale. I picked it up to buy it so I could finish the embroidery for her, but there was a big stain on it. So I didn't. But I really felt for her.<br />
<br />
I figured it's about time I share some of my vintage fabric goodness with the world at large and so I'm starting to sell little things to make and put in my Etsy shop which isn't up and running yet, and I have two craft fairs coming up. Just taking the pictures themselves and writing all of the details is so time consuming, almost more than making everything!<br />
<br />
Here are a few things I made this week with some of my vintage fabrics. And lots more in the making!<br />

I'm Melissa, and I blog at <a href="http://mellysews.com/" target="_blank">Melly Sews</a> and design <a href="http://www.blankslatepatterns.com/" target="_blank">Blank Slate Patterns</a>. Sewing Summit was the second time I got to meet Justine, (the first time was at LA Fabric Weekend) and so today I'd like to tell you some things about her.
<br />
<h2>
Top 5 things you should know about Justine</h2>
5. She is super friendly. I ran into her at the train station and we took the train together from the airport to our hotel. When we got off, I immediately consulted my phone to figure out where we were/where we needed to go. Not Justine. She walked up to the first person she saw and asked. And when that girl didn't know, she proceeded to the next person. I think we figured out directions at the same time, but through totally different methods.
<img alt="sewing-summit-melissa" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3782" height="467" src="http://mellysews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/sewing-summit-melissa.jpg" width="700" />
4. She is way more impulsive than me. I think she decided to come to Sewing Summit like 4 days before it actually started. Also see this actual text exchange between us (I'm in blue) for an example.
<img alt="photo-1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3783" height="512" src="http://mellysews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/photo-1.jpg" width="467" /><br />
See what I mean? I joked a couple of times that she reminds me of Dory from Finding Nemo. Not a planner like me. More of a party girl, grown up. And lots of fun.
3) She was studious in classes (while making new friends).
<img alt="sewing-summit-melissa-3" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3779" height="467" src="http://mellysews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/sewing-summit-melissa-3.jpg" width="700" />
2. She was our own personal paparazzi - never forgot her camera (I was guilty of that) and often the best picture I could get of her was this one.
<img alt="sewing-summit-melissa-4" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3780" height="467" src="http://mellysews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/sewing-summit-melissa-4.jpg" width="700" />
So I'm sure her post has way more photos than mine!
1. Justine really tries to do her best at whatever she's doing. See the studied concentration during the handprinting fabric class? Justine has great stories about growing up in LA and she is definitely a citizen of La-la land (as we lovingly refer to LA in Austin) but she also has a passionate streak, as I'm sure her loyal blog readers have noticed. She was constantly asking questions, networking (through her natural friendliness) and trying to improve. And I am so glad we got to hang out last weekend, privileged to call her a friend and thrilled to steal her blog and tell you about her.

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cRQWzVj7SAs/UkJmYkG192I/AAAAAAAABAI/O4e02XCpK2w/s1600/drapingbasicblock1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cRQWzVj7SAs/UkJmYkG192I/AAAAAAAABAI/O4e02XCpK2w/s1600/drapingbasicblock1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I'm draping a basic child's pattern block size 5 from my dress form.<br />
<br />
If you sew, do you have a basic block yet? Learning how to make a basic block and then how to create some basic designs with it is one way to create your own patterns.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are two ways to make your basic, whether you are making it for yourself, your child, or in my case, creating a pattern that you can eventually sell. ( Or maybe just give away.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can make a flat pattern, or you can drape your original block on a dress form like I did here.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you are creating a pattern only for yourself or for your child, then I would recommend making a flat pattern based on the individual's measurements. If you are making a flat pattern, you will need a fit model to try the pattern on as you go, to make sure everything fits right.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you want to make a pattern to fit different sizes, it's recommended you use a general size chart or a dress form . </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ODXRxxWpknI/UkMMsecaOCI/AAAAAAAABAc/Hvvhq-dssqk/s1600/Screen+shot+2013-09-25+at+9.16.43+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ODXRxxWpknI/UkMMsecaOCI/AAAAAAAABAc/Hvvhq-dssqk/s1600/Screen+shot+2013-09-25+at+9.16.43+AM.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KJDU3XAhHhA/UkMMwYGymDI/AAAAAAAABAk/PRWe3umV9QE/s1600/Screen+shot+2013-09-25+at+9.17.11+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KJDU3XAhHhA/UkMMwYGymDI/AAAAAAAABAk/PRWe3umV9QE/s1600/Screen+shot+2013-09-25+at+9.17.11+AM.png" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
size chart courtesy of<a href="http://pattern.stringcodes.com/size-std.html"> pattern.stringcodes.com </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Commercial dress forms are created with industry sizing standards so you will have an industry standard fit in a range of sizes once it is graded.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What if you are NOT an average size, for instance, a very thin tall person with wide shoulders, or a busty, short person, or have a chunky child, and you draft a pattern based on that basic block you drafted for those not typical measurements then grade it up or down several sizes? Then you will have a pattern that will only fit a specific body type well. You may have some complaints if you try to sell that pattern.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For instance, I love <a href="http://colettepatterns.com/">Colette Patterns </a>because they fit me very well in the bust area. I'm full busted for my figure, and it's very unusual to find a pattern that fits in that area without doing a Full Bust Adjustment or other alterations like lengthening the pattern in front, but Colette patterns fit perfectly. I have a feeling the original fit model for Colette Patterns was probably busty. Not the best news for smaller busted women, but great for me!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Most commercial patterns and clothing you find in stores for women are drafted for the average size B cup for women.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So let's see how I drafted my pattern, shall we?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pnn3aGEL0m4/UkJmXeXRFDI/AAAAAAAAA_8/Znp1tu9VjRA/s1600/odrapingbsiblck2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pnn3aGEL0m4/UkJmXeXRFDI/AAAAAAAAA_8/Znp1tu9VjRA/s1600/odrapingbsiblck2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I always mark GRAINLINES first, to make sure my pattern is on grain and balanced.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wRT5-BpbVVQ/UkJmYmSHnZI/AAAAAAAABAE/JFQ_ckkRT7I/s1600/drapingbasicblock5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wRT5-BpbVVQ/UkJmYmSHnZI/AAAAAAAABAE/JFQ_ckkRT7I/s1600/drapingbasicblock5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I line up my center front and back first and pin them down.<br />
Then I smooth over the fabric as I go, pinning. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4mPe5QIuPPw/UkJmWqmRYRI/AAAAAAAAA_w/dS71g2gmCAY/s1600/drapingbasicblock3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4mPe5QIuPPw/UkJmWqmRYRI/AAAAAAAAA_w/dS71g2gmCAY/s1600/drapingbasicblock3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Making sure my CROSSGRAIN is straight, I finish draping the basic bodice, clipping into the neck line and pinning and marking around the armholes. I use the flat part of the pencil to trace the side and shoulder seams on the form. It's very straightforward for this size 5 child's dress form. No darts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OAg6v6is50c/UkJmWKLznfI/AAAAAAAAA_s/Xev5gw4HHl4/s1600/drapingbasic+block6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OAg6v6is50c/UkJmWKLznfI/AAAAAAAAA_s/Xev5gw4HHl4/s1600/drapingbasic+block6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I pin it together and readjust the fit. I had to make the armholes bigger.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NYBQV5uXQi4/UkJmUtjxpeI/AAAAAAAAA_Q/3O4nDQm35t8/s1600/drapinga+basic7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NYBQV5uXQi4/UkJmUtjxpeI/AAAAAAAAA_Q/3O4nDQm35t8/s1600/drapinga+basic7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After studying children's patterns I've learned learned that the average ease
for a child's basic block is 2 inches. This allows for comfort and
wiggle room.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Below is a chart I unearthed giving ease allowances for average ladies patterns.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That's a lot of ease!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Every designer has their own opinion about ease. I prefer close fitting clothing myself so I would use a minimum amount. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oR9tEEEPRqY/UkMQSoTisVI/AAAAAAAABAw/CM5fsaGDfDw/s1600/ease4-pm.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oR9tEEEPRqY/UkMQSoTisVI/AAAAAAAABAw/CM5fsaGDfDw/s1600/ease4-pm.png" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then at this point I take off the pattern pieces and TRUE them up, using a ruler. I can add about 1/4 to 1/2 inch at the side seams to build in some ease one to two inches, to the basic pattern at this point. By the way, that 2 inches of ease is for woven patterns only. If you are making a knit pattern, there isn't as much. Sometimes knit patterns like bathing suits have NEGATIVE EASE, meaning the pattern is smaller than the body.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But the subject of ease needs it's <b><i>own</i></b> blog post! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also make sure all of my seams are the same length on both pieces, ( side seams, shoulder seams.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xi9evidjTMg/UkJmUSgBgXI/AAAAAAAAA_M/JMVEMW07cLQ/s1600/draftingabasic7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xi9evidjTMg/UkJmUSgBgXI/AAAAAAAAA_M/JMVEMW07cLQ/s1600/draftingabasic7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I tape my pattern to manila and cut it out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Below is my basic block. I don't add seam allowances to my basic block. I add them after I design. This makes it simple to slash and spread, etc.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks to see how I use the basic block to create a dress, and then how I grade it with a grading ruler.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thanks for reading!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here is link to <a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/2012/08/making-basic-pattern-block.html">another post</a> I wrote last year where I made a basic pattern block based on the directions from a book and using Gigi's measurements as a guide:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There will be 15 minute Halloween projects linked up all week. It started yesterday, so head on over to see more!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Would you like to make a spider headband in 15 minutes, too?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's how: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J6gOtfqbgUI/UkEisFTcmNI/AAAAAAAAA-I/zLlc2F6VXBE/s1600/spiderheadband3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J6gOtfqbgUI/UkEisFTcmNI/AAAAAAAAA-I/zLlc2F6VXBE/s1600/spiderheadband3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made this headband from a plastic spider and headband I bought at the 99 cent store and some ribbon from the hobby shop.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0000ee;"><span style="color: black;">I used some little scraps of felt and my glue gun </span><span style="color: #0000ee;"><span style="color: black;">to put it togethe</span>r.</span><u><br /></u></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i2TVIg0PzYM/UkEi4iwTLUI/AAAAAAAAA-k/swTv5HcqU3g/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i2TVIg0PzYM/UkEi4iwTLUI/AAAAAAAAA-k/swTv5HcqU3g/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I cut the felt into little ovals the same size as the spider body.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0jtnx28gtP4/UkEi2_e9sWI/AAAAAAAAA-U/mdY8pC1KhG4/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0jtnx28gtP4/UkEi2_e9sWI/AAAAAAAAA-U/mdY8pC1KhG4/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
From the ribbon, I cut two 2 inch pieces.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hVqNdbRRyOA/UkEi27988UI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/wx7T_rHK1jY/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hVqNdbRRyOA/UkEi27988UI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/wx7T_rHK1jY/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I glued them to the bottom of the headband.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0syrq2GNVSY/UkEi5CBQ5qI/AAAAAAAAA-s/1Xn-5oHv5rI/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0syrq2GNVSY/UkEi5CBQ5qI/AAAAAAAAA-s/1Xn-5oHv5rI/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wrapped about two yards of ribbon around the headband, gluing down at both ends.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-INCvPM1iU2o/UkEi4uHDClI/AAAAAAAAA-g/yd8XLUaycqQ/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-INCvPM1iU2o/UkEi4uHDClI/AAAAAAAAA-g/yd8XLUaycqQ/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I glued down one piece of felt to the spider's body.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AQcL7CeJYPY/UkEi5zOb5yI/AAAAAAAAA-0/VsHcz6A7bJg/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial8.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AQcL7CeJYPY/UkEi5zOb5yI/AAAAAAAAA-0/VsHcz6A7bJg/s1600/spiderheadbandtutorial8.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I sandwiched the headband in between the other piece of felt, which I glued .</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Done!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CsiuE4Ey0_o/Ug0eNJ68O_I/AAAAAAAANAs/fAsyGvsqkPA/s1600/modpodgeframe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CsiuE4Ey0_o/Ug0eNJ68O_I/AAAAAAAANAs/fAsyGvsqkPA/s1600/modpodgeframe.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lately I've noticed at the hobby shop that there have been some very cute rolls of wrapping paper in the one dollar bin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also had a blank wood frame that I bought a long time ago in my crafty cupboard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The colors of the wrapping paper were going to match perfectly with a photo of Gigi in her Purple Pumpkin dress I hand painted from a white sheet. The dress I made for Project Run & Play the week I was voted off. I think this is one of my favorite dresses I have made her ever and ever.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EBKaIAqRw4I/UjqEpwUKV9I/AAAAAAAAA9M/jqYns08TUwg/s1600/blueberry3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EBKaIAqRw4I/UjqEpwUKV9I/AAAAAAAAA9M/jqYns08TUwg/s640/blueberry3.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Original post <a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/2012/09/white-sheet-challenge-purple-pumpkin.html">here.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The light weight of the paper is perfect for Mod Podge projects! While I love scrapbook paper, it doesn't always work on projects that require wrapping, like this frame did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's how to make a wrapping paper covered picture frame...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ycc4wct1D9k/UcZKKNwRcwI/AAAAAAAAAY4/QhOPwYexeWI/s1600/modpodgedframe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ycc4wct1D9k/UcZKKNwRcwI/AAAAAAAAAY4/QhOPwYexeWI/s1600/modpodgedframe.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Start with an unfinished frame like the one above. They are just a couple of dollars at the hobby shop, or you use an old frame you have sitting around collecting dust. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bGrAExMV_PU/UcZKKmG_MNI/AAAAAAAAAZE/kL6ZoTElGvY/s1600/modpodgeframe2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bGrAExMV_PU/UcZKKmG_MNI/AAAAAAAAAZE/kL6ZoTElGvY/s1600/modpodgeframe2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cut the wrapping paper with about a one inch overlap as pictured above.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Add Mod Podge to the back of the frame and wrap the frame.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let dry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B0g8n5AIEAc/UcZKKsxQjNI/AAAAAAAAAZA/qrjs627EJuc/s1600/modpodgeframe3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B0g8n5AIEAc/UcZKKsxQjNI/AAAAAAAAAZA/qrjs627EJuc/s1600/modpodgeframe3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once the paper is dry you can brush a couple of coats of Mod Podge over the frame to seal it and protect it. I used Mod Podge Antique to age the frame, I love how it does that, but normal Mod Podge will work just fine, too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I love typography projects. You've probably seen plenty of awesome lettered and graphic art on Pinterest too.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When a company called <a href="http://www.iconwallstickers.co.uk/">Icon Wall Stickers</a> contacted me about hosting a giveaway for their jumbotypographic and wall art stickers I was excited for my readers. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://www.iconwallstickers.co.uk/">Icon Wall Stickers</a> make removable vinyl wall stickers with various quotes and designs.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They are a bold, modern, and commitment free way to make a modern decorating statement!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are a few of my favorite stickers I came across when browsing the site. There are hundreds of designs to choose from and you would have to head over there to see them all.<br />
If you have a big, bare wall it's a great decor idea. This would be perfect in a dorm room or rented apartment, since they are removable.<br />
These stickers can also be ordered in various colors. </div>

In other news, we found my old iPhone in my husband's car when he had some work done to it and now I have two iPhones. So I'm sending one to my son at college, and I made him a little cozy for it from an old felted sweater. I just threw this together, and I doubt he will really use it, since it will be way too bulky to fit in his jeans pocket. But it <i>will be</i> protected it in the mail! </div>

<br />
<br />
<img alt="Estate sales" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a51Mhx5s6Rw/UjfF1-mfFcI/AAAAAAAAA5w/fGH1z3oYIkE/s1600/estatesaleshoppingtips.jpg" title="Estate Sales" /> My husband and I have always liked collecting old things and have been going to private estate sales on and off for years. Besides our sofas, beds, and appliances, most things in our home are vintage.<br />
My husband has taken up welding as a hobby and is looking for vintage tools to outfit his shop and I'm always on the hunt for vintage fabrics and sewing supplies.<br />
I get e mails every week letting me know when and where the estate sales are and sometimes if the photos interest us, we go. This sale was on an old ranch and there were going to be several outbuildings, plus a house full of stuff, so we decided to go.<br />
When going to an estate sale it's important to try to get there early. Sometimes people are lined up and waiting a half an hour before it opens, like vultures. Extreme Pickers. Most of them are antique and junk dealers who resell the stuff they find at estate sales at either the flea market or on E Bay. But some of them are people like me and my husband, on the hunt for something unique and just curious to look around.<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qA9VNkTiEQo/UjfF1ZLHo5I/AAAAAAAAA5s/nK0A9NyaBps/s1600/Picker%27sady+Out.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qA9VNkTiEQo/UjfF1ZLHo5I/AAAAAAAAA5s/nK0A9NyaBps/s1600/Picker%27sady+Out.jpg" title="Estate Sales" /> </a><br />
I suppose a lot of people might think it's weird to go and look around at estate sales. And many might think it's even weirder to bring your kids, but I didn't have a babysitter so the kids had to tag along. There is something morbid and sometimes depressing about looking through people's things for sale. Sometimes a person has died and the family is selling everything off, sometimes an older person is moving into a nursing home and needs to unload their posessions: you can't fit much in those little rooms, sometimes people are just moving, and sometimes people have fallen on hard times and liquidating. That's a lot of sometimes.<br />
Often, a professional company handles the sale and things are very organized and then there are the times a family member has died and the immediate family is handling the sale, clearly distressed and confused about what to charge for things. Usually when a company handles the sale the prices are higher because they take a cut but sometimes the seller is highly motivated to clear EVERYTHING out and thus, incredible deals can be found.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KByG5t3f3kA/UjfF1BcYNyI/AAAAAAAAA5g/Wmo4JdY3VOg/s1600/bringbox.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="estate sale tips" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KByG5t3f3kA/UjfF1BcYNyI/AAAAAAAAA5g/Wmo4JdY3VOg/s1600/bringbox.jpg" title="estate sale tips" /></a></div>
If you are planning on going to an estate sale you should always bring some kind of box to put things in as you shop. I didn't need this giant box as I bought only a few sewing notions and a vintage Pyrex dish but I was prepared anyway!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C-zFHg8Hof8/UjfF0Zim5CI/AAAAAAAAA5c/xhGVNanXAF0/s1600/bringgloves!.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C-zFHg8Hof8/UjfF0Zim5CI/AAAAAAAAA5c/xhGVNanXAF0/s1600/bringgloves!.jpg" title="estate sale tips" /></a></div>
This sale was a terrible mess. The company who handled this sale did a bad job of preparing things in my opinion. AND their prices were too high. We took turns watching the kids so they didn't get into anything too dangerous. There were a lot of sharp tools just lying around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rwr_3Zv4bGE/UjfF-mS7zzI/AAAAAAAAA7E/UFmj7C6V7rE/s1600/typicalsetup.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="estate sale tips" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rwr_3Zv4bGE/UjfF-mS7zzI/AAAAAAAAA7E/UFmj7C6V7rE/s1600/typicalsetup.jpg" title="estate sale tips" /> </a>Don't forget to negotiate when buying things at an estate sale. Unless you feel the price is great or feel guilty low balling people. If the seller is a family member I usually just pay the price they ask or ask for a small discount. You have to feel out the situation out case by case. it's a personal thing, estate sales and you need to be respectful. You don't want to seem like a vulture.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a51Mhx5s6Rw/UjfF1-mfFcI/AAAAAAAAA5w/fGH1z3oYIkE/s1600/estatesaleshoppingtips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm always on the look out for sewing machines and this house had two, an entry level Brother from the 90's that wasn't worth the bother, and this old Singer which was cool looking, but I DON"T need. But it was fun to look through the drawers, etc. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This machine was from 1941 according to the manual I found in the drawer.</div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7fZjjOrMRqE/UjfF2f8398I/AAAAAAAAA50/92L94J8bK30/s1600/fabric.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7fZjjOrMRqE/UjfF2f8398I/AAAAAAAAA50/92L94J8bK30/s1600/fabric.jpg" /></a> <br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x-9GZyFWQtc/UjfF4g4J5LI/AAAAAAAAA6E/nbWHDJyqGs0/s1600/notions.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x-9GZyFWQtc/UjfF4g4J5LI/AAAAAAAAA6E/nbWHDJyqGs0/s1600/notions.jpg" /></a><br />
I did find some packages of bias tape and rick rack and a little fabric, but not much else besides a vintage Pyrex dish. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LtTWS50yNZU/UjfF6ehNNzI/AAAAAAAAA6Y/cRj0h5CYgqs/s1600/hulahoop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LtTWS50yNZU/UjfF6ehNNzI/AAAAAAAAA6Y/cRj0h5CYgqs/s1600/hulahoop.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z23RltSNc8A/UjfF7kK1_CI/AAAAAAAAA6g/Ld906GTFN_Q/s1600/ranch.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z23RltSNc8A/UjfF7kK1_CI/AAAAAAAAA6g/Ld906GTFN_Q/s1600/ranch.jpg" /> </a><br />
My daughter had fun hula hooping and my husband waited for me because I always take way longer than him to poke through things. <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YNN8Y7Wn4xg/UjfF7LlWjgI/AAAAAAAAA60/Mzig0PFbGgg/s1600/pictures.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YNN8Y7Wn4xg/UjfF7LlWjgI/AAAAAAAAA60/Mzig0PFbGgg/s1600/pictures.jpg" /></a> I became engrossed in an old box in the shed full of old photos and old letters, trying to piece together this person't long life. According to this photo they graduated Robert Fulton junior high school in 1961, wherever that is.<br />
Then everyone came to get me to tell me it was time to leave. I wonder if someone will be looking through my old things one day? I'd better keep them organized just in case!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4gVPV9xm8sQ/UjfF6azzzuI/AAAAAAAAA6Q/gzf4ks9mQrI/s1600/personalthings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4gVPV9xm8sQ/UjfF6azzzuI/AAAAAAAAA6Q/gzf4ks9mQrI/s1600/personalthings.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-doPERhXMpAE/UjfF-FvmHjI/AAAAAAAAA7Y/7QKw4EaQFsQ/s1600/truck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-doPERhXMpAE/UjfF-FvmHjI/AAAAAAAAA7Y/7QKw4EaQFsQ/s1600/truck.jpg" /></a></div>
This truck belonged to one of the dealers who showed up. He restores cars and looks for parts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-06qOoJZUpZI/UjfF_e1sChI/AAAAAAAAA7I/TuMLgmyzBy0/s1600/wholesomefamilyouting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-06qOoJZUpZI/UjfF_e1sChI/AAAAAAAAA7I/TuMLgmyzBy0/s1600/wholesomefamilyouting.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And while going to esate sales isn't necessarily the most <i><b>wholesome </b></i><span style="font-size: small;">f</span>amily outing it's just what we do sometimes. Hopefully my kids won't end up too eccentric because of me! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hello readers! I thought I would share photos of my method for making roses out of felted sweaters which I used on the <a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/2013/09/a-perfect-pillowcase-peasant-dress.html">felt crown </a>I made earlier this week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started with a circle and cut into sparals. Then I cut the spirals into scallops. I rolled it up and sewed it shut from the bottom. You could also use your hot glue gun but mine is so messy I avoid using it if I can.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I prefer needle and thread.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you are stopping by for my Sew & Tell Saturday link up, I have postponed doing it for the time being. It's very time consuming to do on Friday nights when I'm tired from shuttling kids around all week and all of the business in general. Honestly, my family has been complaining about the time I spend blogging and I'm trying to make less work for myself, especially since I have been also busy making dresses for my Etsy shop that I'm opening next week. I will send out an e mail to you all who have posted if I start it back up in the future.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thanks to all of you who were a part of it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today I'm participating in the Peek a Boo Patterns Blog Tour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Amy the designer of Peek A Boo Patterns has some very cute and fun to make styles. One of which is the<a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?ii=1219218&c=ib&aff=238122&cl=236729%22%20target=%22ejejcsingle%22%3EClick%20here%20to%20view%20more%20details%3C/a%3E"> Perfect Peasant Dress </a>(affiliate link)which I am showing you today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cut the entire dress from an old embroidered pilllowcase!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a great dress for a beginner. And the style is timeless.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It can be handed down for years. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also made a felt flower crown to go with this outfit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I finished the dress I was reminded of a Mexican Dress and I thought it would be fun to elaborate on that theme and fix up Gigi's hair like Frida.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I made a crown for her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Out of an old, felted sweater in my stash.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Waste not, want not! </div>

I didn't have enough fabric on the pillowcase to cut the sleeves the full length so I cut off about 3 inches, creating a cap sleeve. I also made the bodice a little more narrow, about 4 inches . From looking at the pattern I could tell it would be too large for her in width. She still fits in a size 3 but it's too short. I cut her dress in a 4 for length. The neat thing about this pillowcase was I didn't have to hem it or sew side seams! The pattern also comes with instructions for a sash but I decided not to make it. If the belt isn't attached to the dress, there is a good chance it will end up in the back of someone's closet.<br />

Below is our front yard. The wall was made by one man. He spent six
months building it, collecting rocks from the river across the road. He
learned how to build stone walls from his father when he was a boy in
Mexico. He used to bring his little boy and his wife every day. His
little boy would hand him the small rocks. He was only about three. He
was so cute and he had his own little shovel. There was a huge pile of
rocks in the yard and all of the kids would play on it. There had been
heavy rains and flooding that year we moved here from LA, and we were
pretty much stranded here for 5 months with no access to town, because
the road had fallen down into the river. We used to enjoy rollerblading
on the empty but once busy road out front. It was a good thing I was
homeschooling the kids already. There was a family that lived across the
road with 9 children that became very close with my kids. Their mother
became very ill and passed away that winter while we were all stranded
without the road,and the youngest was only one. It was a winter of
tragedy and sadness out here. I love this wall but it also sometimes
reminds me of that time.</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w3ycUya4L8U/Ui0qxO2w08I/AAAAAAAAA1I/XEf-RM514xQ/s1600/chambray4.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w3ycUya4L8U/Ui0qxO2w08I/AAAAAAAAA1I/XEf-RM514xQ/s1600/chambray4.jpg" /></a><br />
I've been busy making little girls dresses for a shop I'm opening on Etsy. Actually the shop has been there for a long time but hasn't had anything in it since I made a few upcycled baby cashmere sweaters over two years ago. <br />
<br />
It started this week as an idea to make some baby dresses for my daughter's school auction from some unused fabrics in my stash. Then I started thinking about what I really want to make and now my head is full of little dress ideas for the Country Chick Handmade Shop and The Patchwork Craft Fair in LA in November where I signed up to sell. Country Chick Handmade dresses will be inspired by vintage styles and I want use vintage fabrics as well, but in fun ways.<br />
<br />
This little dress is one of my first creations that I'll be listing. It's a little pinafore style inspired by the 1940's. It has a set in waistband, a square neckline, a button back with vintage anchor buttons and a ruffled bodice and skirt. I made the pattern in sizes 1 to 5 but have since made some changes to it so I'm not sure if this is the style I'll be listing yet. I have to sew up the other design first.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Below is my inspiration! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_DjY_dBHnUI/Ui0vrnbUvkI/AAAAAAAAA1s/wPUsTpAUX5k/s1600/il_570xN.490541833_lyow.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_DjY_dBHnUI/Ui0vrnbUvkI/AAAAAAAAA1s/wPUsTpAUX5k/s640/il_570xN.490541833_lyow.jpg" width="539" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e_wq8cPbrsk/Ui0qiAaZs3I/AAAAAAAAA1A/QqcgYi7CXSE/s1600/chambray3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e_wq8cPbrsk/Ui0qiAaZs3I/AAAAAAAAA1A/QqcgYi7CXSE/s1600/chambray3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This chambray fabric was bought in downtown LA. I need to take another trip down there to find more because I really like chambray. It has a little bit of a work wear feel to it and I like how it balances this otherwise very feminine style. The anchor buttons are vintage but I have plenty more in my stash. Those were a great find. I have so many cool vintage fabrics collecting dust, It's about time I use some of them. I wonder if I will ever get through all of my fabrics in my lifetime.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I woke up very early this morning and went to the flea market where I found lots of bright, vintage 60's and 70's fabric pieces I'm going to make my dresses with. I got an incredible deal and came home with a big pile of small pieces. I'm so excited! Like I need more fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w3ycUya4L8U/Ui0qxO2w08I/AAAAAAAAA1I/XEf-RM514xQ/s1600/chambray4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>

The set in waistband requires hand stitching on the inside to look smooth on the outside with no stitch marks. This style takes longer to make. It's one thing I'm wondering about. Do I make something simple but hopefully still cute to keep the cost down or do I make something more detailed and time consuming, then have to charge more? And will people who don't sew understand these little things that drive up the cost of time and labor? I've seen so many extremely low priced baby clothes on Etsy I wonder how the designers can afford to stay in business. As a consumer, I don't expect handmade clothing to cost the same as clothing mass produced in overseas factories. I know it will cost more and I'm OK with that. How do you feel about buying handmade clothes?<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
I found a plastic pumpkin light at the thrift shop for 99 cents and decided I was going to paint it with chalkboard paint. But not after arguing with my 4 year old who wanted me to buy every beat up flea bitten stuffed toy in the place. NO we will not be bringing home that crusty Elmo!<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I received some chalkboard paint last spring for a spring decor campaign and have been waiting to do some fun Halloween projects with it.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We painted the plastic pumpkin with the chalkboard paint. Two coats.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GeI1_Tofwic/Uikc1AIB4ZI/AAAAAAAAA0U/HuI2VC8uqtI/s1600/tute2.jpg" />We let the chalkboard paint dry for 24
hours as recommended on the directions. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When we first painted the pumpkin it didn't really look like a chalkboard surface. It just looked like plain black paint. That was
because we hadn't CURED it yet. Curing a chalkboard? "What the heck is
that?", you ask? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You have to cure it before you use it. Like letting fine wine sit in the barrel to age. No, not really. Something about needing to smear chalk on the surface to make it more adherent.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We smeared the whole
pumpkin with chalk to CURE the chalkboard paint. Then we wiped it off with a paper towel. After that it was ready to draw on with chalk!</div>

The other day I sat down and started making some baby dresses to sell at my child's school auction coming up this November. What an enjoyable experience, sewing teeny, tiny dresses. So simple and sweet! It got me to thinking about sewing for my own growing daughters when I remembered this post I had written for <a href="http://sewcoolforthetweenscene.blogspot.com/">Sew Cool For The Tween Scene</a> about the joys and pitfalls of sewing for older girls and teens over the past few years.<br />
<br />
I sew for my three daughters ages 4, 10, and 18, on a regular basis. I also have a 19 year old son and a 26 year old stepdaughter, but I didn't sew much for them besides Halloween costumes when they were younger. I became more serious about sewing and designing for my kids in the past four years, I'd say.<br />
<br />
My middle daughter is now 10 and at the age where she is developing her own sense of style. When she was younger I used to love making her dresses from 1940's and 50's patterns. She looked so cute and them and we had such fun going to flea markets together!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MqlrRH4fdq0/UhjQSg89mPI/AAAAAAAAAqk/yhmhesYpKeU/s1600/lilygingham2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MqlrRH4fdq0/UhjQSg89mPI/AAAAAAAAAqk/yhmhesYpKeU/s640/lilygingham2.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/2012/10/simplicity-1787-from-1956-in-red.html">50's pattern</a></div>
But she 's not really into her vintage dresses anymore. At her age, most girls don't want to stand out too much . They want to fit in with the crowd. As an experienced mother of four girls, I can tell you that this <i>is</i> a phase and it does pass.<br />
<br />
And by 17 or 18, they REALLY want to stand out from the crowd! At least my 18 year old does and we have had several talks about why it's important to not reveal too much in the clothing department.<br />
<br />
Below are some of the outfits I've collaborated on with my pre-teen and teen daughters and sewed for them that they love and wear often...even if I think they might be a little too racy....<br />

<br />
You might be like me and actually like the reject outfits more than the embraced ones. But guess what? That doesn't matter! What matters is that you don't waste your time sewing what you think would look good on your girls but will never get worn.<br />
<br />
I can't stress enough how important it is to remember that once your daughter gets to about the age of 9, sewing for her will have to become a collaboration. Unless you want the garment to sit in her closet collecting dust, she needs to feel that the garment was mostly her idea, and you have to take a back seat as designer when it comes to fabric choices etc.<br />
<br />
While it's frustrating to spend hours making something only to have it sit
in a closet, I learned the lesson about COLLABORATION the hard way.
I'm hoping to pass my advice along to others who sew for older girls. Wast not, want not.</div>

Recently Joann Fabrics asked me if I would like to participate in sewing something with their new line of Waverly Fabrics. They asked me to Waverize It. I think I can do that. Is this chair <i><b>Waverized</b></i> enough for y'all?<br />
Waverize It is also a contest going on open to the general public
on Joann's Facebook Page. Here is the <a href="http://bit.ly/waverize_it" rel="nofollow">link</a>
if you would like to learn more. The grand prize is 1,000 dollars! But
that's not for us bloggers... darn. But maybe YOU can participate!<br />
But I did get this fabric for free!(disclosure.)<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7MVAsHmc_Gk/UiNmNgOX2LI/AAAAAAAAAvo/Q-VfNnbu8As/s1600/armchairslipcovercloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="armchair slipcover tutorial" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7MVAsHmc_Gk/UiNmNgOX2LI/AAAAAAAAAvo/Q-VfNnbu8As/s1600/armchairslipcovercloseup.jpg" title="armchair slipcover tutorial" /></a> What Joann sent me was two yards of of this beautiful green and white bold print cotton by Waverly. It's from their Modern Essentials Line and it's called Fun Flore. Having a mom who was a drapery designer for 25 years, I am well aware of Waverly Fabrics and I like how they stay on top of trends, yet somehow also remain classic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7-TaZ_IfgmA/UiNmb2-402I/AAAAAAAAAv4/GmdntjCDXBQ/s1600/chairbefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7-TaZ_IfgmA/UiNmb2-402I/AAAAAAAAAv4/GmdntjCDXBQ/s1600/chairbefore.jpg" /></a></div>
This poor little brown vinyl chair was a thrift shop find. I bought it<i> over two years ago</i> thinking I would make a slipcover for it but never got around to it. I would look at this sad little worn out chair sitting in my den and feel guilty because it was such an eyesore. I had been ignoring the poor little thing for too long. I actually tried to get rid of it once. But my 3 year old daughter found it in my "giveaway " shed and made me bring it back. I'm glad she did, because her little chair was perfect to makeover with the Waverly fabric. Sometimes I can be a little relentless with getting rid of things. Especially after watching Hoarders!<br />
<br />
So now I am going to attempt to walk you through the steps I take when I make a slipcover. I'm not really the exact measuring type. I'm sort of an ADD Scattered type, and precise measurements aren't really my thing. But I can do it if I have to. For instance, I have been sizing some patterns and you need to be very precise there. I like slipcovers because I get to drape and draping is my preferred design method, NOT flat pattern making. That's probably why I have three dress forms. I equate draping with sculpture and art and flat pattern making with...well, math.<br />
<br />
So here goes....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-38hz7b7Udcs/UiODpeY3DxI/AAAAAAAAAxU/czvKkSSFmBs/s1600/tute9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F6sWsCqbWBY/UiODmYNhwBI/AAAAAAAAAwU/vkOGubtpDqI/s1600/tute1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F6sWsCqbWBY/UiODmYNhwBI/AAAAAAAAAwU/vkOGubtpDqI/s1600/tute1.jpg" /></a></div>
I draped a large piece of fabric to the back of my child's chair. This chair used up two yards of fabric.<br />
The first piece to drape was this backrest above. I made sure my fabric was ON GRAIN and that I liked the pattern placement before I started pinning. I pinned from the top first, then started tucking in the bottom and corners.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-063H-1vglf0/UiODnRV9A3I/AAAAAAAAAwk/fjRoWRi4Fks/s1600/tute2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-063H-1vglf0/UiODnRV9A3I/AAAAAAAAAwk/fjRoWRi4Fks/s1600/tute2.jpg" /></a></div>
I had some extra fabric bunching up in the top corners so I draped in a dart. I pinned the dart closed. Once the dart was pinned closed I marked it by tracing it with my pencil. So then when I later took off the slipcover piece, I could see where I would need to sew the dart along the dart fold lines.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KeZitQrorgY/UiODnqQ1HtI/AAAAAAAAAws/4OtiYNFPYwA/s1600/tute3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KeZitQrorgY/UiODnqQ1HtI/AAAAAAAAAws/4OtiYNFPYwA/s1600/tute3.jpg" /></a></div>
Then I traced around all of the edges of my back piece with a pencil. This is how I made all of the pieces for my armchair slipcover. Draping, pinning, and tracing. Except for the square shaped part you sit on. Because that was a square and easy to measure.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fINk0uWOHlg/UiODn7PKuBI/AAAAAAAAAw4/kGpcoOFA_fw/s1600/tute4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fINk0uWOHlg/UiODn7PKuBI/AAAAAAAAAw4/kGpcoOFA_fw/s1600/tute4.jpg" /></a></div>
I removed my fabric, unpinned my dart and traced the sewing lines on it with my ruler to straighten out my dart sewing lines up in the top corners up there. It's sort of hard to see my dart lines in this photo. Sorry! I then cut about 1/2 an inch all around the pencil tracing lines, adding my seam allowance.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6bsnlk0MIKU/UiODokDKC2I/AAAAAAAAAxE/WbILOzBKyOc/s1600/tute7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6bsnlk0MIKU/UiODokDKC2I/AAAAAAAAAxE/WbILOzBKyOc/s1600/tute7.jpg" /></a></div>
Next, I measured the square shaped seat bottom. I cut out that pattern easy enough since it didn't require and draping.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ICqQuAl_LI0/UiODmEG3yTI/AAAAAAAAAwI/QyfvF22ioZQ/s1600/tute11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ICqQuAl_LI0/UiODmEG3yTI/AAAAAAAAAwI/QyfvF22ioZQ/s1600/tute11.jpg" /></a></div>
I sewed a piece of fuchsia piping to the seat bottom for a little pop of color. This is a kids chair and needs to be fun! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_1_ymUzsInc/UiODpFff1HI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/RTq2af6OjEc/s1600/tute8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_1_ymUzsInc/UiODpFff1HI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/RTq2af6OjEc/s1600/tute8.jpg" /></a></div>
Next, it was time to drape my arm rest pieces. I started pinning from the bottom edges then wrapped the fabric up and around, making sure my fabric was still on grain.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-38hz7b7Udcs/UiODpeY3DxI/AAAAAAAAAxU/czvKkSSFmBs/s1600/tute9.jpg" />Hmmm...can you see how my piece went off grain a little? I had to straighten that piece out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sljGbIr_F0A/UiODmaBKctI/AAAAAAAAAwM/M9ayAWoNmLU/s1600/tute12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sljGbIr_F0A/UiODmaBKctI/AAAAAAAAAwM/M9ayAWoNmLU/s1600/tute12.jpg" /></a></div>
So now I had four pieces cut out and ready to sew. First, I sewed the bottom back rest edge to the top of my square shaped seat bottom piece. Then I sewed those two bottom curvy corners of the the back rest to the the bottom curvy corners of the arm rest pieces. They were about an inch off, those two pieces, because I had draped them, so I just pinned the ease out.<br />
If you need this project to be totally perfect you could always lay your draped fabric pieces down on paper, trace them to make pattern, and adjust all the seam lines so they match perfectly. If I was making more than one of these chairs or selling it, I would.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RB5UuGlumus/UiODm07uDAI/AAAAAAAAAwg/X31MjQqde8k/s1600/tute13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RB5UuGlumus/UiODm07uDAI/AAAAAAAAAwg/X31MjQqde8k/s1600/tute13.jpg" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Next I draped the bottom piece that goes from the seat bottom to the bottom of the chair. I sewed that to the piped edge of seat bottom.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v08DpGU4smc/UiSg6VhAVwI/AAAAAAAAAx8/yCnVuZ8uas4/s1600/armchair+insert+thhong.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v08DpGU4smc/UiSg6VhAVwI/AAAAAAAAAx8/yCnVuZ8uas4/s1600/armchair+insert+thhong.jpg" /></a></div>
The next step is to drape those little pieces above. I'm not sure what these pieces are called so I'll call them arm rest inserts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CjFQp7Kjvhs/UiSg6Zw3hdI/AAAAAAAAAxs/bhAm0BqXE5o/s1600/insertpiping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CjFQp7Kjvhs/UiSg6Zw3hdI/AAAAAAAAAxs/bhAm0BqXE5o/s1600/insertpiping.jpg" /> </a>Then I sewed piping to the edges of them.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B0yi11fhbRs/UiSg7EBDImI/AAAAAAAAAx4/4ruPn_-GB2M/s1600/sewinginserts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B0yi11fhbRs/UiSg7EBDImI/AAAAAAAAAx4/4ruPn_-GB2M/s1600/sewinginserts.jpg" /></a></div>
And sewed them to the chair. My bottom piece in the center was a little long so I had to trim it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MfYgQL0KoaM/UiSg59iI8LI/AAAAAAAAAxo/QQ6wrxE5X-g/s1600/backpart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MfYgQL0KoaM/UiSg59iI8LI/AAAAAAAAAxo/QQ6wrxE5X-g/s1600/backpart.jpg" /></a></div>
The next step was to draft the back piece and sew it to the chair cover. I made the center a little wider as you can see so it would fit over the bulging armrests. I could have also sewn in a zipper along one edge to make it easy to put the slipcover on but it fit over the chair as is easy enough.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZlSrnjZkILI/UiSioACcNVI/AAAAAAAAAyM/LnbeG7A_uQE/s1600/ruffle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZlSrnjZkILI/UiSioACcNVI/AAAAAAAAAyM/LnbeG7A_uQE/s1600/ruffle.jpg" /> </a>The last part was the bottom ruffle that covers the legs of the chair. I hardly had ANY fabric left so I had to cut out lots of little strips and sewed them together to make a strip that was double the circumference of the bottom of the chair.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have a habit of just sewing something without measuring how much fabric I will need. BUT my eye is practiced, and I have only come up short on one project so far recently, when I didn't have enough fabric for a sleeve. So unless you have a lot of experience sewing, you should always make sure you have enough fabric to finish a project before you start it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hemmed the long ruffle strip, and pinned in the pleats just eyeballing them, them sewed them down. The whole project took about three hours. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a project an intermediate sewist can do in a day. You will love making slipcovers !</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lolKPaO3Xpo/UiSjSSd4l_I/AAAAAAAAAyU/sZ19qjSjf-c/s1600/before&after.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="437" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lolKPaO3Xpo/UiSjSSd4l_I/AAAAAAAAAyU/sZ19qjSjf-c/s640/before&after.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cz76kzuuDec/UiAYl8zbZdI/AAAAAAAAAu0/fn8Ea2sK7aY/s1600/machinesewnbuttons.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cz76kzuuDec/UiAYl8zbZdI/AAAAAAAAAu0/fn8Ea2sK7aY/s1600/machinesewnbuttons.jpg" /></a><br />
I was tired of how crummy and "homemade" my hand sewn buttons were looking when I realized I could just sew the buttons on with my machine. Yes!<br />
OK, maybe some of you are smart and figured out this trick a long time ago, but for those of you who are as clueless as I was, here is an easy way to sew on neat, tidy, and professional looking buttons with the sewing machine!<br />
Using the zig zag stitch and removing the presser foot.<br />
What a time saver this was for me!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-02rlSSS_Wmg/UiAYk7NQ5JI/AAAAAAAAAus/6_76EF2fLK8/s1600/machinebuttons3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-02rlSSS_Wmg/UiAYk7NQ5JI/AAAAAAAAAus/6_76EF2fLK8/s1600/machinebuttons3.jpg" /></a> <br />
And look how nice the buttons look from the backside! Much nicer than my usual messy hand sewn buttons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m9zmGBZp3Dg/UiAYhZwBEsI/AAAAAAAAAuY/dNhjIxGkhHY/s1600/machine1.jpg" />Before you set up your zig zag stitch to sew your buttons down, set your straight stitch to zero length, which means the needle will stay in place and not go forward. Sew one or two stitches and then do a backstitch to lock the thread. Now you can continue with the sewing of your buttonholes. Do the same thing once you are done sewing the buttonhole to lock the thread and keep the buttons from unraveling off.<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fzw9i0q0bDs/UiAYmW9BelI/AAAAAAAAAvA/w2KwVCmKz5k/s1600/machinezigzag.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fzw9i0q0bDs/UiAYmW9BelI/AAAAAAAAAvA/w2KwVCmKz5k/s1600/machinezigzag.jpg" /></a></div>

An Interview With My 10 Year Old About Fashion. Interviewed By Me.<br />
<br />
Q: How do you feel about handmade clothes?<br />
A: I like them.... accept I don't like them to look too crafty.<br />
<br />
Q: How do you want them to look?<br />
A: Like they aren't handmade.<br />
<br />
Q: How do you feel about telling your friends your mom makes your clothes?<br />
A: Fine. I don't care. I brag about it.<br />
<br />
Q: What colors do you like?<br />
A :I like the colors mint, baby pink, and white. And blue. I also like colored denim shorts<br />
<br />
Q: How about patterns on clothing?<br />
A: No
Peace signs, no hearts, and no things that say love! I like small
patterns with little animals or florals. Most kids will probably think
I'm stupid because everyone at my last school liked that stuff. I like things
with turtles and Galaxy prints and I HATE Poo Poo pants ( harem pants)
That's what Zac Posen calls them.<br />
<br />
Q: Speaking of Zac Posen, how do you feel about fashion in general and Project Runway?<br />
A: I like everything about it. I like the drama and to see how people make things. And I like Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum.<br />
<br />
Q: I used to make you a lot of vintage fashions with 40's patterns. Would you wear those dresses now if I made you one?<br />
A: If you made it like a modern vintage in a like a blue chambray or something I would wear it. Chambray would be nice.<br />
<br />
A: Would you wear something with ruffles on it?<br />
Q: If it was a shorter skirt. No ruffly sleeves. That's a big no no in my book.<br />
<br />
So we decided to go through some of the pattern companies out there to let Lily choose some that she might consider wearing. She didn't like much. But she did find a few things on the Burdastyle website. <br />

<br />
The other day I got a lovely box of goodies from <a href="http://bit.ly/marthadeco" rel="nofollow">Martha Stewart Decoupage</a> in the mail to try out.<br />
In it contained some new products designed for creating decoupage on fabric!<br />
There was a special glue for creating an oilcloth finish on fabric, a matte formulation for gluing fabric to fabric permanently, some decoupage paint brushes, colorful paints, and a various assortment of die cut fabric appliques, which can all be found at Micheal's Craft Stores. And it's all machine washable. I've tried gluing on fabric before but the project was ruined when I washed it, so I'm so glad there is a product like this now.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p7AfiuF6ezE/UhbvMQMSAXI/AAAAAAAAApg/rnB6jQfO1js/s1600/negroni2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p7AfiuF6ezE/UhbvMQMSAXI/AAAAAAAAApg/rnB6jQfO1js/s1600/negroni2.jpg" /> </a></div>
I sewed something for my husband!!! Only after being married for twenty years....<br />
It doesn't help that my husband is super picky about fashion. To be honest, I didn't think I could sew well enough to pass the test until now.<br />
I guess I passed because he loves this shirt and has been wearing it a lot! <br />
And I think he looks really good in it if I do say so myself...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-clT8JTPp884/UhbvM19qRSI/AAAAAAAAApk/0eFDjKtxYCM/s1600/negroni1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-clT8JTPp884/UhbvM19qRSI/AAAAAAAAApk/0eFDjKtxYCM/s1600/negroni1.jpg" /></a> </div>
I used the <a href="http://www.colettepatterns.com/shop/negroni">Colette Negroni</a> pattern and yes, It's as good as all the hype about it floating around the blogosphere says it is. This fit him straight out of the envelope and the fit is narrow enough to be fashionable but not too narrow for his taste. He's into this traditional retro American look this year.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
He won't wear anything unless it's made in the US or Europe or Japan. He's a bit of fashion snob. But he has principles. He hates how all of the clothing companies have moved production overseas, and the resulting decline in quality and workmanship.<br />
Those glasses he's wearing are from <a href="http://www.randolphusa.com/">Randolph Engineering</a>, an eyewear company that has been making eyeglasses in Boston for decades. His jeans are handmade by a design duo out of San Francisco called<a href="http://jackknifeoutfitters.com/launch/"> Jack Knife Outfitters. </a>The belt is by<a href="http://www.filson.com/"> Filson</a>, a company in Seattle that still makes their leather goods here. And yes, buying things made in the US costs a pretty penny.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MCDZKMVziWA/UhbvPx0FarI/AAAAAAAAAqE/yrbDWSo_Yrg/s1600/negroni8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MCDZKMVziWA/UhbvPx0FarI/AAAAAAAAAqE/yrbDWSo_Yrg/s1600/negroni8.jpg" /></a></div>
I could go on about his cool style but here's the thing: He likes my shirt enough to wear it over and over. I just might make him another one! This is a casual style double yoked shirt and doesn't have a collar stand. I'd say an intermediate sewist could make this , no problem.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGD5bDYWBd0/Uhd0luH4WDI/AAAAAAAANDY/Ekq9sg2_vcU/s1600/negronibackcropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGD5bDYWBd0/Uhd0luH4WDI/AAAAAAAANDY/Ekq9sg2_vcU/s1600/negronibackcropped.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This pattern was a dream to sew up. The directions were really thorough and easy to follow. I used a beautiful slub chambray from Michel Miller that is made in Japan. I bought it <a href="https://www.superbuzzy.com/shop/product/chambray-union-slub-indigo/">here at Superbuzzy</a>. They have the COOLEST fabrics! And I'm lucky enoght o live about twenty minutes from their shop in Ventura. The buttons are from my vintage collection. The<a href="https://www.superbuzzy.com/shop/product/organic-cotton-sewing-thread/"> thread </a>was organic and made in the Netherlands... I spared no expense on this project veering away from my usual bargain basement tendencies<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-61wW7cII7jg/UhbvPDsSokI/AAAAAAAAAp4/9FG0zVMZR6M/s1600/negroni7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-61wW7cII7jg/UhbvPDsSokI/AAAAAAAAAp4/9FG0zVMZR6M/s1600/negroni7.jpg" /></a></div>
OK, there are a few loose threads! I used my sewing machine to sew the buttonholes on. I love this technique and think I may share a little trick I learned, involving removing the presser foot and sewing the button on freehand. The placket is also a nice touch. I am so in love with this fabric. I need to make something for myself with this. Soon.

When Jodi from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/SewFineFabric">Sew Fine Fabric</a> contacted me to ask if I would like to try out some of her fabric for a project, I was like " Ummmm... YES!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I made a pinafore and matching Peter Pan collar blouse with the fabric she sent me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBhPKLyAVDU/UhROeePud2I/AAAAAAAANC8/WEAQgMKCY2I/s1600/sewfinefabric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="84" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBhPKLyAVDU/UhROeePud2I/AAAAAAAANC8/WEAQgMKCY2I/s640/sewfinefabric.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I totally love this logo!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So cute.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But seriously, the fabrics over there are organic and also very stylish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A winning combination.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I couldn't decide what to use so I asked her to just send me something <i>she liked.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cEdBu5Ehkng/UhRMsHhZZrI/AAAAAAAANCw/p_mOmdLP5bQ/s1600/pinafore7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cEdBu5Ehkng/UhRMsHhZZrI/AAAAAAAANCw/p_mOmdLP5bQ/s1600/pinafore7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She sent me Peacock Paisley and Lotus Blossom, both organic fabrics by the designer<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/154942790/organic-lotus-blossom-by-monaluna-from?ref=shop_home_active"> Monaluna</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really like them both!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2T1HfuUJ76o/UhRMnbn0GKI/AAAAAAAANBw/W_SS92bCoH4/s1600/blouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2T1HfuUJ76o/UhRMnbn0GKI/AAAAAAAANBw/W_SS92bCoH4/s1600/blouse.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought it would be fun to try these more modern fabrics in a traditional style.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was curious to see how that might look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nZhI0uTtWc4/UhRMn41wi1I/AAAAAAAANB4/zqj1BdPMsOI/s1600/Mccall's+7590.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nZhI0uTtWc4/UhRMn41wi1I/AAAAAAAANB4/zqj1BdPMsOI/s1600/Mccall's+7590.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I used this pattern from 1981 by McCall's I had in my stash.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been sort of obsessed with this classic pinafore style lately and have been working on a few versions myself, trying to make what i consider the perfect pinafore.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This one is close and a very typical style of the pinafore from the 70's. I think I had a dress like this myself.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But my favorite little girls pinafore is a 40's version.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H0gDPtgb4fY/UhRMobyfM4I/AAAAAAAANCE/3TrfFj2Oi74/s1600/pinafore2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H0gDPtgb4fY/UhRMobyfM4I/AAAAAAAANCE/3TrfFj2Oi74/s1600/pinafore2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pinafore style is a jumper and can either be worn with a blouse or without one, as shown on the pattern cover. But little girls don't seem to wear these pinafores without shirts anymore. I think it would be cute with a tank top under it too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jYT9dzAbmwc/UhRMo51obDI/AAAAAAAANCM/l1HY-1NjTq0/s1600/pinafore3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jYT9dzAbmwc/UhRMo51obDI/AAAAAAAANCM/l1HY-1NjTq0/s1600/pinafore3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Strangely, a lot of modern patterns for girls have longer hemlines and are actually more modest than some of the vintage styles.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I like to see knees! Little knees are so cute.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HUKSTjtPFWc/UhRMqomYTLI/AAAAAAAANCg/AB__3ASf_8c/s1600/pinafore4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HUKSTjtPFWc/UhRMqomYTLI/AAAAAAAANCg/AB__3ASf_8c/s1600/pinafore4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We found these shoes by Primigi up in her shoe basket.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I bought then at the thrift shop but they weren't really Gigi's style.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She's more of a Converse and Crocs girl but she agreed to wear these for "the picture".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What a great model she is!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z4aFP0_XQAM/UhRMqR45NqI/AAAAAAAANCY/zgvSv8ZegOc/s1600/pinafore5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z4aFP0_XQAM/UhRMqR45NqI/AAAAAAAANCY/zgvSv8ZegOc/s1600/pinafore5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She is turning into such a ham for the camera! She thought up all these poses.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MZqFAE1cSnU/UhRMrWIx50I/AAAAAAAANCo/eK61T4qCBO4/s1600/pinafore6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MZqFAE1cSnU/UhRMrWIx50I/AAAAAAAANCo/eK61T4qCBO4/s1600/pinafore6.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love this shot. It was about 7:30 in the morning and I could not see this ray of sun through my camera lens.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
