Child's Apron Tutorial

Here is my tutorial after the jump break. I hope you try it!

Make a pattern about 18 inches by 10 inches. Fold it in half and cut the bottom edge a little rounded.

Use the pattern to cut out a front and back for your apron.

If you want to trim it pin the trim to one of the pieces like this, facing opposite direction and sew it in the seam allowance. I used a crochet trim I bought for three dollars for about 20 yards downtown. Killer deal! I gathered it at twice the width to create a ruffle here.

Sew the two apron pieces together right sides facing with a half inch seam allowance along the sides and bottom.

Flip it right side out and iron it.
Now gather the top till it is about 10 inches wide.

Time to make the strap. Make it about 54 inches long by five inches. This will give you a two inch wide strap.

Sew the strap together right sides facing leaving about 11 inches open in the center of the strap so you can attach your apron to it. Trim the edges so you have a nice sharp corner on your strap. Flip the strap and iron it right side out. Iron the seam allowance of one side under.

Now sew the apron's outside part facing the right side of the strap that isn't ironed under. It should be facing down like the photo above. Sew it by machine with a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Now flip your strap to face the other side of the apron and slipstitch it closed by hand. I like this technique because you won't have any topstitching lines on the apron. I don't like to see topstitching lines if I can help it!
