The Sew Country Chick Bunch!
At least, those three on the right are part of it! We are missing a couple!
If you have more than a couple of kids then you know how hard it is to get photos together.
I'll take what I can get....
THE BRADY BUNCH !
They were the perfect 70's family!
They lived the San Fernando Valley, a comfortable suburb of Los Angeles, with six kids, a stay at home mom, a housekeeper, and a wise father who was always giving good counsel.
Their mom was always in a good mood and never a grouch, thanks to Alice the dedicated full time housekeeper.
Their mom was always in a good mood and never a grouch, thanks to Alice the dedicated full time housekeeper.
The fact that Carol and Mike Brady were both widows who had three kids each and were actually a blended family never really tampered with my vision of them being the perfect family. How on earth had both of their spouses died in their thirties? I mean, what are the chances? I smell a conspiracy....
Somehow my own very real and slightly dysfunctional family never could measure up when compared to the Brady Bunch.
Funny enough, my husband grew up in the same neighborhood the Brady's supposedly lived, and he looked amazingly like Peter Brady! He even had a blonde mom with one of those perfect blonde seventies hairdos ....
To complete my six degrees of separation with the Brady Bunch, I was once at a nightclub in Hollywood with my husband and some friends when the real actor who played Peter Brady introduced himself to me. He was a slightly overweight middle aged guy at that point, but there was no mistaking it was Peter Brady, my childhood crush! Of course, his name was Mike, but that didn't matter!
Cindy loved her great big collars and so do I!
I dug out one of my vintage patterns to make this dress.
It is a super simple pattern but attaching the one piece facing with a Peter Pan collar was a head scratching time, especially since my three year old conveniently lost the directions.
I think we all watched 'The Brady Bunch' at some stage, although, I hate to admit, that, for a short time, I watched the originals as an adult. I had a couple of dresses like that in the 60s. Love the Peter Pan collar!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, you are so talented :)
ReplyDeleteYour girl is so lovely in that dress.
ReplyDeleteI like the story and the pattern too. :o)
Oh, she looks so adorable. I love the dress. And yes, it definitely brings back memories of The Brady Bunch (which I had always heard references to but didn't see until college!)
ReplyDeletedewcdrgf egvr this is SO CUTE!
ReplyDeleteThree year olds and patterns- worse than cats! Really cute.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I loved watching The Brady Bunch when I got home from school too! I got to have my cookie at the coffee table--the things memories are made of. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh because I lived through The Brady Bunch series as a child watching it on tv with my family. I remember wearing those clothes and hating them. I know they were very stylish at the time but I gagged every time we'd go to Sears or Montgomery Ward to buy clothes. My mom didn't sew. When I turned 12 my parents bought me my first Kenmore sewing machine and I started sewing for myself. Now that I'm a grandmother to three little girls I look at clothes differently than I did as a child. What I hated at the time my five year old granddaughter loves! This would be a dress she would really like to wear. My only hangup being the zipper on the back. It's too difficult for a child and requires someone else to help them dress. I'm wondering if you might use a placket and place a button and loop at the top of the dress for closure or even Velcro? Then again, that might create a problem with hair being caught. Hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of all the family photos.. We all seemed to be wearing the same Dress and Style.. :) Very cute and love the color. :)
ReplyDeleteAngelina
what a fun post !
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the pink & the super sweet vintage pattern you found :)
What a sweet dress! I really like the sketches on the pattern envelope too - they're the cute 70's styles (not all styles were so cute during that time).
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many times I've seen all the episodes of The Brady Bunch. It was in reruns everyday a long time when I was a kid, and I think my little sister and I watched it everyday for years, even when it was a "repeat" we remembered.
Awww... thank you so much for reminding me about the Brady Bunch. I used to love watching that on TV. Oh... and now the theme tune is in my head! And probably for the duration of today! The dress is of course amazing. I just wish my daughter would wear such loveliness. If you ever get a mo, would love to know how you attached the collar with the facing. It sounds like a problem I had recently. But I wasn't as persistent as you!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the Brady Bunch too! This is such an adorable little dress and your daughter looks so cute in it! I love the big white collar, and the cute patch pockets :)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love it's nostalgic quality but the ability to choose a more modern fabric choice (like, NOT itchy polyester!)
ReplyDeleteI am really loving this one! how adorable!! it takes me back to when I was a little girl. :-)
