This is my second go at the Hazel.
This time I used an old tablecloth that had some wear on it.
I tried to make sure all of my seams matched but there is glaring mistake here at the bottom!
I trimmed the top with some lavender bias tape. It went nicely with the tiny bit of lavender in the tablecloth.
I finally got the in seam pockets right.
And the invisible zip which still seems like magic to me. I really have no idea how it works.
After sewing together the dress from a small tablecloth with virtually no leftover fabric, I started to notice several little holes in the fabric. I spent about and hour mending and patching them. This dress better never make it into the washing machine.
Hand wash only for this delicate little number.

ReplyDeleteI love these old tablecloths. I had one from my grandmother that is currently being used as curtains in my daughter's bedroom. I love how you used the lavender trim, that looks so pretty and professional. also the way you placed the print in the front is just great. Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE this! Pinning - you did a great job of making a gorgeous dress and highlighting the beautiful features of the old tablecloth.
ReplyDeleteIt even has pockets?!? You are now officially on my hero list. This is stunning, simply stunning. Had I the time, I would follow your lead. (Darn shoe making business, no time to sew for me!)
ReplyDeleteWell isn't that the cutest!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this version Justine! That vintage tablecloth is simply stunning! So well done. I love this dress!!!

This is soooo pretty! I'm so glad to see these vintage pieces being rescued and brought back to life!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! I'm going to need to get that pattern today :)
ReplyDeleteThis is simply beautiful! The print on the tablecloth works perfectly with the Hazel's bodice construction and I'm soooo impressed with your mending skills! I'm about to put together my first Hazel in a lovely pink striped seersucker but I think I'm going to make a significantly fuller skirt than the pattern suggests - can't wait to get stuck in!
ReplyDeleteHi Elisalex.
ReplyDeleteI would make the skirt fuller too. It's a little too gathered to be a straight skirt but not quite full enough if you have fuller hips. Pink seersucker sounds divine!
This is really beautiful. I think you did a great job. It is always frustrating when the patterns do not match up right at the end. I am dealing with that right now on a couch. I get it. I have a Blog Hop, and I would love it if you would link this post. You can find it at
