70's childrens clothing. Love them or leave them? Old School Rehash

I was at an estate sale on Friday and came across a drawer full of seventies kids clothing. It was a blast from the past. I was a kid in the seventies and eighties and wore clothes just like them. Striped tube socks, shorts, old school Kinney sneakers, and polyester bellbottoms! There was even a Marineland Park T-shirt. Marineland shut down in the eighties but I loved going there as a kid. I had to buy these clothes!
Being a tomboy I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those Holly Hobbie maxi dresses but these outfits below?
Right on!

My mom could not stop laughing when she saw these pictures. She said they reminded her so much of my brother and I when we were little.
Now for those of you who remember these days here are a few more flashbacks of clothing you might have worn:

I had a pair of these indestructable Toughskins from Sears.
Garanimals matching clothing from Sears held a lot of playground status.

I think these dresses are adorable now but I hated them when I was little!

This would have been more up my alley.

Maybe they should ad some toupees and some golf clubs for these little guys to wear and use?

Below are some sewing patterns I unearthed on Etsy for those of you who would like to try making some groovy duds for your own kids.

So what's the verdict on kids seventies clothing? Love them or leave them?

  1. Definatly leave them. I was a child of the 70's, a teenager of the 80's. Somethings are just better left in the past. 70's style is one of them.

  2. I say keep them! They're totally awesome. Or, maybe let your kids decide. That's probably the best option.

  4. Well, I was born in the 70's and I wore those clothes also, I have say that I had some pants like those (jump suits), and I LOVED to wear them I wore them till they didn't fit me anymore, now that I remember I feel ashamed of that hehehehehe , if your kids love them you should keep them, my daughter (9 yrs old), she loves 70's fashion!! specially those pants with big legs ( I don't know the word in english)

  7. Too cute! They were the style back then and I love seeing them again. Your kids look adorable in those clothes. I made quite a few clothes for my daughter in those styles, wish I still had them because I did some embroidery on some of the outfits.

  8. Interesting... it seems so that those who wore them (like we did), don1t really like them. :o)
Some of the dresses are pretty although.
Transform them to present and keep them. :o)

  9. I loved them then and I love them now. In Australia all the kids wore 'Stubbies' and 'Hang Ten' shorts and whenever I find them in the op shops I buy them for my kids. They love them too. Short shorts and a picture shirt, how can that be bad? Our most priced item from that era is a red terry toweling play suit. Stella love it and I can't wait til Ginger fits it. Your kids are rocking the 70's. I love a complying model.

  10. Keep them!!! Well, some of them. I loved (and still do) the baby doll tops!!! Perhaps not the ever so tight pants with their ever so wide bell bottoms... we thought we looked so cool... LOL!!!

  13. Oh dear, I am a child of the 70's too and I say leave them!! But kids always look adorable in anything and everything, as your lovely children are proving here.
btw, thank you so much for your sweet comment! Of course that is me, not my daughter. She is far prettier, and has no wrinkles!

  14. I love the shorts. My sister had a red pair which were then handed down to me. Gotta love the seventies. Green polyester flared trousers teamed with orange hand knitted cable jumpers. Those were the days!

  15. Gotta luv em! Styles always re-cycle around they just use different fabrics now. Bell bottoms, mini skirts, etc. Poncho's are making a come back! LOL...to cute!

I say if the kids love them, let them wear them! They will be setting the new trends!!
